I thought I had made it clear in the message, but I meant B natural, not B
flat. I have known about this fingering for a while, but I prefer to use my
knuckle instead of my thumb (lot less awkward). I should also mention that
my problem, although it affects both the left and right keys, it is much
more noticable with the left key (more mechanical action?). Thanks again.

Chris:
Before looking for an obscure mechanical fault, check your bridge key (as
others have mentioned), check the firmness and tightness of *all* the
joints, and check your left hand position. Holding your instrument too
close to the vertical or too horizontally can also have an adverse
effect, as the left hand more or less unconsciously tries to take extra
weight. Even a slightly loose mouthpiece can affect the alignment of the
fingers with the keys.
