Hello,
I'm also a high school clarinet player and this year I made first chair in
the All-State Band of Oklahoma. You don't nesecarily have to switch to a
Vandoren mouthpiece because there are so many out there. I myself play on a
Morgan RM10 which is about a $120 mouthpiece at retail price but I got mine
for $89 through a catalog. So far, the only Vandoren mouthpiece I've tried
is a refaced 5RV and I was pretty satisfied. I've heard that most Vandoren
mouthpieces are good when they've been refaced so if you choose to get a
Vandoren mouthpiece, maybe spend a little extra and get it refaced. For the
past three years, the first chairs in the All-State band here have played on
refaced Vandoren mouthpieces either B45's or 5RV's. Good luck in your
search!
