Chris,
There probably isn't anything wrong with your clarinet. The mid-staff B is
(in my opinion) the worst note on the clarinet. For years, I thought the
problem was me. However, I have learned through recent discussions on this
list that the problem is the design of the instrument.

The problem is the hole for the register key is in the wrong place for this
note. Rest the clarinet on your knee and try playing a B using your thumb
on the third (from the bottom) right trill key instead of the register key.
It sounds very good.

I would love to have an instrument that fixes this problem and the throat
Bb as well which can use the same alternate register hole. (Pictures I have
seen of the Rossi clarinets indicate they have the alternate Bb, I can't
tell if they fix the B, too.)
