I've been reading with interest about the availability of Morre reeds from
Marks' Music. I haven't been playing long enough to remember them. Is the
superiority of the Morre reed attricuted to (1) the cut of the vamp, (2) the
cane quality, or (3) longevity? (Please don't reply "YES").

I can't see how one reed cut works on the universe of mouthpieces. A reed
that is superlative on one mouthpiece is dull on another. The relationship
between a reed and mouthpiece is as unpredictable and potentially volatile
as a personal relationship. Did Morres work on a mouthpiece that was in wide
use at the time the reeds were being cut? It seems to me this agrees with
the history: weren't certain pieces of equipment justified because they
worked best with Kaspar mouthpieces? ----B.F.
