If you're looking for North American clarinetists, try Souren Baronian.
He plays Turkish and Armenian music that ranges from traditional dance
music to jazz, and has several recordings out.

There's a CD called Tzigane, by the Erkose Ensemble of Turkey, playing
Turkish Gypsy music, featuring two clarinets. They're hot!

You mentioned middle eastern music, is why I thought of these two,
but here's another style that's also "a little different": Ivo Papasov,
on the CD "Balkanology", plays a modern form of Bulgarian folk dance
music, with jazz influences, with incredible virtuosity.
