Hello Jeremy,

The best way to avoid colds, etc. this time of year is to
avoid rubbing your nose or eyes. Cold viruses are relatively
long lived and can be picked up on your hands by touching a
door knob, telephone, by shaking hands, or any hand contact
with a foreign object.

Washing your hands frequently reduces the chance of transferring
a virus to your more vulnerable mucous membranes.

When I do get the inevitable cold, I take a decongestant (not a
compound cold remedy) to reduce the long term discomfort of playing
with irritated sinuses and aspirin and tylenol in combination to
alleviate the pain involved.

And mentally, I try to keep in mind that one gains strength
through adversity... but sometimes I just moan quitely to
myself. :-)

Victor
