I've been lurking on this list for several months. I recently
started playing the clarinet after a break of over 15 years.
I majored in music in college and played saxophone, clarinet
and flute professionally during that period (mostly jazz).
Reading the messages on this list has helped me a lot
in beginning the long journey back to relearning the instrument.

The room that I practice in is occasionally rather cold. I
remembered that one of my teachers had a cloth cover that his
wife made for his clarinet and several other instruments that
slipped over the instrument while it was on an instrument peg.
He used it during performances on rather cold nights. The
cover seemed to keep his clarinet and oboe at a relatively
constant temperature while he played the other instruments
and during breaks. I asked my mother, a rather accomplished
seamstress, if she would make something similar for me.

The cover is grey cloth on the outside with a felt liner.
It fits easily over the instrument and comes off very quickly
without getting hung up on the keys. I thought it might
be of interest to some of you (particularly doublers). I
think it works rather well.
