HI all
I would like to give my 2 cents.
I have been playing on a Gigiliotti (sp?) for 12 years. I have
been very happy with it. I also tried the Greg Smith Mouthpiece this
weekend. I tried all the facings and the wooden ones as well. I do say I
was very impressed withe the 1+ angle cut. (non wood) I do not think that
I will switch yet but I do like it. In defense of the Gigliotti (p
facing) I feal the sound is centered and dark. I do not think that
people realize that the gigliotti really does work. The sound carries
better in an orchestral situation. I do realize that these are all my
opinion. I also feel that Vandoren V-12 reeds at 4, or 4 1/2 are the
correct choice. His lig. is very good as well. I personally use a Bonade
inverted with the middle cut out. I have tried the m-13. I was not too
happy with it. In an orchestral situation I did not feel it took all I
was giving it. It did have a nice dark sound but I did not feel
comfortable in all registers of the horn.
For Eflat I use a Vandoren B44. I have been very impressed with
the overall performance with this unit. I use vandoren E-flat 4 reeds.
I also use an inverted Bonade w/middle removed. Now the Bass.. I have
Buffet mouthpeice. I have never tried anything better for the bass. I put
it up against the selmer's and the vandorens. Buffet won. Anyone Know who
made this model I interested.
I would like to conclude that "we" need to take time w/
mouthpieces. Some people try a certain one for a week and thats it. There
are sooooo many and sooo many rumors(sp). Find what you like. In an
audition youare behind a screen and they wont see what you use. If
theStck works(yeah right) use it. Also Dont get so hung up in this gadget
world. Ithought we were musicians. I also think that Dogs are beter. My
dog listens to me play all the time. He has quite a good ear as well.

I hope I was a help. I know that I did not answer any questions, but I
feel better.
