...though a clarinet on a stand makes a very good scratching post...

Or in my cats case, a clarinet on its peg can make a nice object against
which to rub his face!
I should say however, that my cat "Okie" has never pushed down the clarinets
and has always stopped rubbing his face against my clarinet when I ask him to
"quit it" He has never done any harm to my instruments or mouthpieces.
I stand by my earlier statement that cats are indeed superior to dogs!
