Your guess is correct. According to Jerome Selmer (of Selmer, Paris), there
has NEVER been a Selmer bass clarinet tuned to A-440. The Amercian
instruments are generally shipped with longer necks than the European ones.
Somehow, some of the new model 37s have accidentally arrived in the US with
the shorter necks. Getting the correct length neck will get you as close as
is possible to A-440. The tuning of indivudial notes is up to you and your
technician.
