You didn't mention if the clarinet you are restoring is an A or Bb. The main
problem with the register vent tube being too long was with the A clarinets.
I think you'll run into problems using a tube from a Bb on an A (or vice
versa).
I've not heard of the hourglass shape you mentioned.
On the subject of the Leblancs:
I've tried several Opuses [Opusi?](Bb &A) and recently did a Mahler Six
sitting next to someone playing them. I'm sorry to say I was not very
impressed. Although they feel very good as far as resistance goes, I just
like the sound and projection of the Buffet better. I am at a loss to explain
how Morales and Combs sound so good on theirs (although I can hear some
evenness problems with Combs' A). Maybe they were able to have Tom Ridenour
make some adjustments at the factory.
I have some students who play the Concerto model. It's OK but overpriced for
what I consider a medium level instrument.
