Hi Heidi,

Our band director in high school--who was a retired Marine Band conductor
sergeant and who had been training young recruits for the Marine Band for
many years before he came to us, used to use vocal exercises in the band,
having them stand and sing and hum chords in different dynamics for an
exercise in listening. The band then sat and did the same with their
instruments. If you want more detail on this (it worked wonders for helping
the band achieve a controlled and coordinated sound) write me privately.
