Tony,
I am not from there but I do make a specialty out or Eastern
European and Balkan music. I play in a Macedonian Gypsy band whose
instrumentation is that of a typical village band in South
Serbia/Macedonia: singers, clarinet/sax, trumpet, tupan, accordion, low
brass (e.g. trombone/tuba), dumbek and sometimes, snare drum and right
now, electric bass (as our trombone just left). We're called
BAMCo (Balkan American Music COmpany) and we are based in the Washington, DC
area. We play alot of Rom
repertoire, as our singers love it, and perform at folk festivals, dance
evenings and occasionally concerts. Our repertoire also includes many
Bulgarian dances, especially those in odd meters.
