I am looking for insight from others who have tried the newest model
Selmer 37 low C bass clarinet.

When comparing a colleague's 37 to my older model 33 we discovered the new
one's neck is 1/4" shorter! The sound is great, and key work has clearly
been redesigned for the better, and so forth (I could speak of the great
qualities of this instrument. . .), but the neck! Why on earth did they
change the neck?

My friend has pulled the neck the additional length, but feel that the
sound suffers and doesn't quite have the focus it had when not pulled out
so far. It is kind of like playing on a really short barrel and then
pulling it out so you can play in a group who is playing maybe say A@-----.
. . It kind of has to do with the gap created when pulling out the
neck/barrel.

I have called Selmer USA, and their marketing person (who is a
clarinetist) had no answers for me. "We ask Selmer Paris the same
questions, and they just don't respond." Friends of mine in sales have
had the same trouble when they have called Selmer USA. Maybe I'm going
about this the wrong way and I'm asking the wrong person??

Has anyone else noticed that these necks are shorter?
