John,
The reason that your barrel is sticking could be that the wood is
unstable. I had some trouble with this about a year ago. My repairman
told me to use bore oil every night until the wood was no longer dry. I
had to oil it about 3 nights in a row and that did the trick. I haven't
had a problem since. Sometimes changes in weather or playing for long
periods of time can make the wood unstable-a major cause of cracks.
You might also be sure that you are properly warming up the outside
of your clarinet with your hands before you play. That way you don't
have a warm bore and the outside wood of the clarinet cold. That can
also cause problems.
