Subj: List problems
Date: Sat, 23 Nov 1996 09:32:33 -0500

At the risk of adding to the problem I'd like to address, and in my
"semi-official" capacity as ICA Internet Liaison, I'd like to make the
following points:

Please do *not* send messages about the list (is it down? is it up? is it
upside down?) to the list. It only further clogs the already busy list,
and in the current climate, where multiple copies of posts are
mysteriously appearing, makes the problem worse.

If you have, or think you might have a problem, you can:
a.) check with *your* system administrator about your service's
status and any problems.
b.) send the message QUERY KLARINET to the *LISTSERV* address (*not*
the list!) to check your subscription status. Sometimes
unexplainable, mysterious things can happen to your account.
c.) use Mark Charette's web site to check his new feature on list
status (if you have web access)
d.) send a *polite* note to one of the three KLARINET administrators
(address below) asking for assistance. *please note that this should be
your last resort*.

These three people generously take their time to administer this list,
and are not necessarily responsible for hardware and software glitches
that occur from time to time - they just have the un-enviable task of
getting to fix the problems when they come up! Since this entails
hundreds of messages to consider each day, please be considerate, and
explore all the other options *before* contacting the "ruling
triumverate" with a problem.

Following these steps will get you quicker action, and make the list a
more pleasant place for everyone (including the owners!)

Thanks,

David Niethamer
