I taught a couple of new students today, both of whom had Buffet
clarinets. I played their instruments, which had the feel of an
R-13, and they were also silver plated, but without an auxiliary
Ab/Eb key. Beneath the standard Buffet stamp on the top joint was
the word, in cursive, "International". Is this an R-13 variety, like
the Prestige? Or is it a separate line of instrument like a Festival?
I'm given to understand that this "International" model runs around
$1300. Surely it's not just a student model Buffet like the E-11.
It plays quite beautifully, both instruments being possessed of a full
and lush sound and keywork precision typical of the R-13. What's the
scoop?
