Subj: Serge's Clarinet and Orchestra next year

A few folks have replied to Serge's potential switch from Vito/Rico
(clarinet/redd) to something of a more professional set-up... I wonder
though, if he's considered what his study plans will be for college???

It used to be that institutions could fill the chairs in their performing
ensembles with clarinet majors from their music programs. Even if there
was a hot-shot non-major on campus, the space was reserved (even on
rotation) for the music majors... This might not be the case, but I'd hate
to hear of Serge spending lots of (non-existent) bucks on a
professional-level instrument, only to be shut-out of symphony because he's
a non-major... Don't forget, for symphonic playing, he'll ultimately need
an A clarinet too...
