First of all, I strongly recommend *against* the small portable peg which
you just broke. I assume you're talking about the plastic Pak-A-Stand
clarinet stand which fits into the bell of your soprano instrument. They
have proven, in my experience, to be much too flimsy (resulting in easy
breakage) and simply not large enough to provide ample support for the
instrument when stood on end. The legs of the stand are pretty short and,
being made of plastic, are prone to break or tip over, or come out of their
fixed position when bumped with your clarinet on it. The little pro-
trustion which "snaps" the legs into place is so tiny -- and is just a
small piece of plastic -- that it breaks off very easily.

If you're looking for a good portable and lightweight single-clarinet
stand, I have high kudos for the Koenig & Meyer collapsible stand, with
a full-size plastic peg and three *long tube-metal* legs which fold up
(parallel to) the peg for portability -- and then descend and snap firmly
into place for use as a clarinet stand. The peg is long, ensuring that
the instrument has a substantial enough base to support it, and the legs
are strong tube metal, each leg standing out at a 120-degree from the other,
forming a sort of Mercedes-Benz hood ornament configuration. The stand is
very *durable and light*, and a serious hit would be necessary to overturn
your instrument while resting on it. You can find this stand in both the
Woodwind/Brasswind catalogue as well as the Weiner catalogue. It goes
for around $16.
