A friend of mine in the Air Force band claims that the black moldy stuff
growing on his reeds is the secret to his beautiful clarinet playing. He
keeps them in a tupperware container on glass plates with damp sponges
between the layers of reeds. I think it's disgusting, and suspect his fine
clarinet playing is the result of a sharp, creative mind and lots of hard
work, but one way or another he sounds good and is quite healthy...
