Nancy,
Its murphy's law. I have tried many, many, many more poor R-13's than the
German made E-11. Sure, the E-11 is a student horn (bore, etc), but they are
really, really consistent. Only problems they have, are sometimes the Barrels
are much too tight for a young one to put on and off.

Subject: E-11 clarinet

This past February, during the worst ice storm imaginable, I made the trip
to Phil Muncy's outpost to pick up my e-flat clarinet and an E-11 A clarinet
that he had selected for one of my students. I didn't have time to try the
A horn, as I had a 200 mile drive to catch a plane to get back home. When I
got home, however, I did try out the clarinet and was pleasantly surprised
that it played better than my R-13 A. I have since sent this student to a
teacher who can better address her needs and the new teacher is also very
pleased with the performance of this instrument. Three cheers for Buffet
for offering such an excellent student horn and also to Phil for
recommending it!
