Sean,
You're right, LeBlanc does have a rosewood Opus. I think Ricardo
Morales is the only one with 1 or 2 (I'm not sure if he has an A rosewood).
I heard about this from Tim Clark since he does Ricardo's setup. The
rosewood should give a mellower sound (I know - material doesn't matter!).
The only experience I have with different woods is in recorder playing. I
have a soprano recorder of rosewood. I've tried sopranos made of pearwood,
maple, plum, ebony, and grenadilla. The wood does affect the tone of the
instrument. It seems like the softer woods give a more diffuse sound and
the harder woods project or have a more compact sound - and since there are
no "reeds" on recorders, I think this is a better instrument to judge the
effects of different woods on tone color.
