Since dogs have a greater sense of smell and hearing than we, do couldn't
a dog be trained (hey, thay sounds like a good DMA document!!) to sniff out
the good reeds. Dogs are used to find drugs, missing persons, foxes,
newspapers, etc. Why not reeds? I even think there is some research on
dogs being able to sniff out cancerous cells or something. Now think about
this, once the dog finds a good reed or a certain strength, he could then
put the reed in a certain bin for packing. Who knows maybe dog saliva is
the answer to preserving reeds. I always wondered about the Oliveri
"tempered" reeds.
Maybe in the year 2000 the Vandoren factory will be "manned" by
man's best friend (no, not the remote) and since Bowser will work for Bacon
strips, a rubber squeeky toy, and a drink from the toilet now and then,
the price of a box of reeds will be $3!!
