They are called "lip savers" and should be available for about a dollar or
two per pack--they peel off and a pack lasts quite a long time--from any
music store that does mail order. Or you can take coffee percolater filters
and dip them in melted wax (the kind you seal jelly jars with and which is
called paraffin in the US--not the stuff called paraffin in UK and is called
kerosene in US) Melt the wax in a double boiler and dip the filters in it
and let them cool. Cut them into small squares and use one or two for a
tooth cushion. Keep the rest in the case for next time--pre-cut them and
press them together to make a little packet and wrap in freezer plastic wrap
to keep them clean. They don't last quite as long as the "real" kind but
they do protect the lip and can be made anywhere wax and coffee filters are
available and are very cheap.
