Someone else on the list awhile ago suggested using parafilm (if you have
access to lab supplies!) Parafilm is a stretchy, moldable plastic film. I
tried it after it was suggested, and it seemed to work pretty well (I don't
use teeth guards regularly, though.)

Also, let's not forget duct tape... :-)
