Paul,
I cannot say enough good things about Charlie Neidich's Brahms
with the Juilliard String Quartet. I think it is by far the besta of all
the dozens of recordings I've heard of the work. Run, don't walk, to get
it. There is a re-release on Angel ofa very old, but beautiful, recording
with Reginald Kell and the Busch 4-tet. This is pretty good too and
notable for the string playing style (old-fashioned). Charlie's
Mozartrecording isn't too shabby either, now that I think about it, but my
favorite Mozart is still an out-of-print Simeon Bellison recording with
the Roth quartet.
