Susan,
I haven't used it for an E, but thumb, register, and LH 2 can be
used for a clarion B on Eb clarinet. In some passages that are fast or to
lower the pitch of the B this works. There are some spots in the Ravel
Concerto in G that I use this. You still have trouble if your going or
coming from a high C (which is sharp). The trick is not to use the
register key on the clarion A, Bb, B, and C. You have to keep the air flow
real focused in order to keep it from dropping pitch. This is for Eb
clarinet only.
