Dear Kelly,

I was the top musician/clarinetist in my high school,
loved to practice, loved music, and received a scholarship
to become a music major. At college, I also became the
top clarinetist -- even after dropping my music major.
I dropped the major for several reasons...

1. The only job opportunities I could foresee would be a
performer (difficult to find) and/or teaching (little
money, and still not that easy to find)

2. The music major involved so many aspects of music that
either I did not care about, or wasn't especially good
at, such as singing, composing, etc.

3. My teachers were constantly trying to get me to give
up my outside interests...

However, this may not be the situation for you, depending
on how seriously devoted you are, and the institution you
plan on attending. I still love playing, and still regret
occasionally that I didn't go deeper into performance.

I hope things work out for you!

michelle :)
