I have been somewhat of a silent subscriber to the Klarinet list for awhile
and have watched how so many of you with vast clarinet knowledge have helped
others. Now, I seek your advice about something personal. I am a senior now
and have played the clarinet since the sixth grade. Endowed with no special
talent, I decided that I would work my behind off to be great. Now, one of
the top high school players in Texas, I face a tremendous decision - what to
do in college? I love music, but wonder if that is because music is the only
thing I know. I am scared to start out as a music major, completely
submersed in nothing but music related classes, in fear to later find out
that music is not what I really want to do. Mabye some of you out there
faced the same decision. What have you decided? What are your regrets (if
any)? Those of you who have gone on to music as performance majors, are you
finding jobs? Is it everything you expected it to be? Is there money out
there or do you find yourself teching just to get by? Also, what colleges in
a 8 hour radius of Dallas do you reccomend (I am seriously considering the
University of North Texas)? What do you think about Sheppards School at
Rice? Thank you so much for taking time to read this. I am so greatful for
any and every comment. Your advice would mean very much to me. :)
