The problem goes beyond Italy! I've heard some students (music performance
majors and grads) with the same problem right here in the USA. I don't know
if it stems from the intense competition for few jobs, but the feeling I have
gotten in talking to these young people is that if every note isn't there,
they will not even be considered for positions so they concentrate on the
notes and leave the music til later, since anyone who hires them will tell
them what interpretation to use. This horrifies me. Any comments?
