I'm uncertain as to whether I have anything of substance to add
to this conversation, but, in an effort to say something positive, I
offer the following comments:

On the recording "Amilcare PONCHIELLI, Musique pour mon salon" by
the Swiss Group, Ensemble SYRINX, there are superb performances (in my
opinion) by two clarinetists who may be Italian or possibly Swiss -- at
least one of the two names sounds Italian, the other I couldn't say.

The players are Antony Morf, Bb soprano clarinet, and Bruno Furlanetto,
Eb soprano clarinet. Morf does a very fine job on "Paolo and Virginia,"
a trio for clarinet, violin, and piano. I've performed the trio, and that
experience has given me some objectivity in rating his performance.

Both players are also heard in Ponchielli's "Quartet with Piano
Accompaniment," along with monster oboist Omar Zoboli and flutist
Heinrich Keller. Their performance compares very favorably with an
earlier recording of the same composition by members of the Philadelphia
Orchestra. Furlanetto is brilliant in this piece.

Can any list members knowledgeable about European wind players
tell us about Morf and Furlanetto, their nationalities and musical
affiliations?
