It is a fine book but there is not much on Barat. Joseph-Edouard Barat
(1852-1963) wrote his Solo de Concours for the 1939 final exams at the Paris
Conservatoire. He studied with P. Vidal and E. Pessard and was a bandmaster
and founder and director of l'Ecole Preparatoire de Sous-Chefs de Musique
Militaire. He has written numerous solos for various instruments, and his
textures are all in the traditional idiom. Gee also mentions a Piece in G
minor for clarinet with band accompaniment, published by Kendor.
