To those who are "saving" their Zonda Reeds--thanks for admitting it--I'm
glad I'm not the only one. I still remember (vaguely) ration coupons and I
have a horrid tendency to save everything that might prove useful later. A
reed is dead when it splits or shatters--otherwise I tend to dry them in a
press when they get hopelessly soggy and tired and try them again after a few
months (I have a little drawer in the desk for things like that.) Some of
them actually revive enough for practice reeds. The Depression and Rationing
did something weird to the minds of people who could come up with "Use it up,
wear it out, make do, or do without" as a motto.
