Neil,
What I do is cut the sponge or place it so that it's at the end of
the mouthpiece cap and position it in the cap so that it will rest on the
top of the mouthpiece beak. I wet the sponge and then squeeze it out.
This doesn't saturate the reed but only works as a small humidifier and
since it doesn't touch the reed, you don't get a water logged tip.
