Subj: Cadenza in Weber Concerto No. 2
Date: Tue, 8 Oct 1996 21:24:18 -0400

I have a pleasant opportunity to play Weber's 2nd concerto soon.

What cadenzas are published for the end of the slow movement?

The whole movement was covered in a recent article in the ICA's magazine. This
gave:

* The Carl Baermann (a slur from the throat G sharp to a high D and then a
descending scale to the throat A). I like this or maybe use of this as a basis
for improvisation. This cadenza is used on the 4 recordings that I have. It's
simple and very elegant.
* Robert (?) Stark - A series of diminished arpeggios. Not bad but doesn't seem
to fit with the movement.
* Rose - The longest of all that I've seen but just too elaborate for my taste.

I've also a cadenza in Eric Simon's edition for Boosey and Hawkes which is
somewhat like the Stark.

Are there other contributions I should consider?
