I face this problem frequently. The only way I've found around it is to
keep a cup of warm water on stage and dip the bass clarinet mouthpiece and
reed frequently during breaks in the other playing. This, together with
leaving the mouthpiece cap on seems to keep it wet and "crinkle-free", even
in this ultra dry, high Utah desert. Also blowing air through the horn
ocassionally to maintain something near playing temperature is vital.
