This kind of fits in with "what teachers said" discussion:

When I was in high school, there was a girl from our church who wanted to play
clarinet in the band. Her mother thought it would be a good idea for her to get
some extra help, on top of the free lessons that came with the instrument. As
it turns out, this kid had the attention span of a caprenter ant, and her
mother was worse!

Anyways, about her third lesson or so, I had to put my clarinet together the
same time she did, because I hadn't practiced at all that day. I put my reed
on, just like any other human being would, and her mother said, "Oh, Stacy,
that's why we couldn't get the clarinet to work; the reed was upside-down."
Somehow, I managed to keep a straight face that day, but I laugh every time I
think of it now.
