I think you're talking about the new gortex pads?
I was at SC and G. Chadash came by (he played in the Israeli Youth Phil
with Yehuda Gilad) and put these new pads in for everybody (I, of course,
was late so was jipped).

No you heard correctly. Cork pads are not unusual. I bought a used R-13 for
my son from a professional and it only has five conventional pads. All the
rest are cork.
