I actually played the below-mentioned Hovhaness last April; a
percussionist and his harpist girlfriend and I wanted to put on a
recital, so we commissioned one piece, and he somehow got hold of a
Darbukka, and away we went! The movements are all short, and very
middle-eastern sounding. It's a good piece, but the "hardware" does make
it difficult to put on (it took many hours to move the percussion equip.)

I know this may not even be considerable, but I have some music by Hovhaness
called Firdausi ( op 252). It's for Clar, percussion and Harp, though. A teacher
gave it
to me when he was cleaning out his 'archives'. The percussion that is required
is kind of impossible for most everyone : Darbukka , Laotian drum-gongs,
Chinese drums, etc

Ok so it's not possible for everyone to perform this piece :-), I have yet to
meet a percussionist with this equipment. But it does sound like a cool piece.
