Yes, Ridenour advises this fingering when resting the clarinet on your
knee (seated, obviously). Mr. "R" does have e-mail, so maybe he's reading.
I think the possibilities he describes for evening up the scale, intonation,
etc.
are great, but I do think the "work" involved---I'm not just talking about
memorizing fingerings---is a down side.

Lots of ways to do this. Several fingerings. Of course, I only want to
bother
with the *best* one. Of course, that depends on where my other fingers are
