I have a CD of the Mozart Clarinet Quintet, produced by Sony Classical.
The clarinetist is Charles Neidich, and he is listed as playing:

Basset Clarinet
J. H. W. Grenser, Dresden, c.1796, copy by Rudolf Tutz
Clarinet
J. H. W. Grenser, Dresden, c.1796, copy by Rudolf Tutz

There are black and white pictures of him playing both instruments, and
they appear to be light colored wood of some kind, with white rings
around the joints. From the picture (and the date of the instrument) it
appears to be a very old system of fingering, obviously not Boehm (and it
doesn't look like Oeler to me, but I have never played one)

Does anyone know anything about these instruments, or Mr. Neidich? It
doesn't give the normal biography that most CDs have...

Thanks,
Scott
