Thank you to Patrick Kwan for posting about the RC his band director found.
The questions to identify the instrument were well-chosen. I hope this helps
bring it and its owner back together.

Perhaps this posting could serve as a semi-standard form for posting
lost-and-founds. I have in the past seen lost instrument postings on this and
other lists which haven't provided key information we can use to watch out
for it.

While most list readers are unlikely to run into a fellow with hot Buffets
under his raincoat (hey, check it out) there are several businesses and
collectors on these lists who can make use of a "hot sheet" to get
lost/stolen instruments back to their owners. The shop I work for has a very
good relationship with the local police and have not only recovered
instruments but have helped apprehend the thieves. Some manufacturers, such
as Haynes and Powell Flutes, maintain a hot list of their customers'
instruments. We are well known for buying used instruments and we always
check with these makers when buying their instruments. This is a much easier
service for a small maker to provide than for an international conglomerate
such as Boosey and Hawkes/Buffet Crampon. Think of the complexity of
maintaining such a list between several corporations selling through many
distributors all over the globe.

Postings such as Patrick's, with well chosen identification criteria, can
provide a tremendous service to us all. WELL DONE!

Apologies for the ramble - I do my mail very early, and it's Monday to boot.
