Jerry Hall, widely known for his interest and expertise in clarinet
mouthpieces, tentatively plans to be in the Washington, DC, area on
Saturday, SEPTEMBER 28, to display his wares. Time and place are yet
uncertain. Please E-mail me so I can let Jerry know if you're interested;
let me know what specific item you'd like to try.

BALTIMORE/ANNAPOLIS area residents: if there's enough interest, Jerry would
also set up a demo in your area. Again, please e-mail me to let me know if
you're interested.

Jerry has a new product: angled sidewall crystal mouthpieces. These
mouthpieces are virgin Pomerico rock crystal (*not* glass). The angled
sidewall design provides more overtones. Jerry's mouthpieces are available
in three facings (numbers using Eric Brand measuring (I hope I copied them
down correctly!)):

JC 1 : 33 23 12 6-/5+ w/ 100- tip: this is the Genussa/Wright/Madsen
facing, made a bit closer for use with harder reeds. It is designed to
provide outstanding high register and good throat tone intonation.

JC 3: 36/37 23/24 13/14 8/9 1.25 mm: this is a *big*, flexible
mouthpiece for those who like/need to bend pitch. Jerry thinks it's ideal
for doublers. (I have a similar facing on the black Zinner angled sidewall
mouthpiece and it is amazing how much the pitch and tone can be altered.
Makes it easy to match the other sections in my community orchestra) Using
this flexibility tires the chops and reduces playing time. But, it's alot
of fun!)

JC 2: 36 23 13 7 110-12 tip: this is an "in-between" variant.

Crystal mouthpieces are excellent for use in bands, due to the volume that
can be generated (I played a GG crystal for 3 years in the US Army Field
Band. I haven't tried Jerry's yet, but can't wait to.)

Jerry will also be showing his Hans Zinner black angled sidewall
mouthpieces, with similar facings.

Finally Jerry has barrels in new woods: COCABOLA, HONDURAN PALISSANDER, and
GRANADILLA (*not* a typo: this is not grenadilla). These barrels are
available in two lengths for both A and Bb, pitched at 440 and 442 hz. They
have a conically reversed taper and NO RINGS.

Every clarinetist should talk to Jerry. In addition to the above, he has
other goodies and lots of interesting ideas. I suggested that if he could
develop a great C clarinet, the clarinet world would enshrine him!
