Ok,
Now, I have to ask. Doesn't the Quarter (metal-good conductor of heat) get
really hot, very quickly while holding it to burn the tip of the reed?

Does this make the reed - dare I say it? - *DARKER*?????

p.s. this does work amazingly well, because it doesn't crush the reed tip
fibers the way most reed trimmers do.
