Jonathan --

I read with interest your discussion of cutoff frequencies. Thanks for joining
the discussion.

There is one sentence in your note which piqued my interest. You state "Each
tone hole lattice (for each fingering) has a characteristic 'cutoff frequency'
which can be calculated given the size, shape and spacing of the holes, . . . "

Do you mean to state that with a micrometer, and other precise measurements, one
can predict what the cutoff frequency will be? Or can we only measure the
cutoff frequency which we believe to be dependent on the size, shape, and
spacing of holes and bore? If the latter, aren't we still stuck with the
argument that the type of wood, plastic or other material of the clarinet could
make a significant difference, as some have suggested on the list?

I'm .cc'ing this to the list as others might have additional thoughts.
