 The United States Army Field Band is the United States Army's official
 touring musical representative.  The Field Band travels with the Soldiers'
 Chorus to perform nationally and internationally as directed by the
 Department of the Army.  Formal public concerts, school assemblies, clinics,
 music festivals, and radio and television appearances are all part of the
 Band's yearly schedule.  Tours have taken the Field Band to all 50 states,
 Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Far East and the Republic of
 India.  The Band has performed in many of the world's greatest concert halls
 including Symphony Hall in Osaka, Japan, Carnegie Hall and the Berlin
 Philharmonie.  Other notable performances include accompanying President
 Ronald Reagan at the 40th anniversary of D-day in Normandy; the rededication
 of the Statue of Liberty on July 4th, 1986; the 750th anniversary of the city
 of Berlin; the 200th anniversary of the United States Constitution; and seven
 inaugural parades.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS:  The candidate must have strong sight-reading skills and be
 able to perform various musical styles. Those with improvisational skills
 should include representative excerpts.  Baccalaureate degree preferred, but
 not required.
 
 SALARY:  $25,360-28,690  annually (Military rank of Staff Sergeant)
 
 JOB DESCRIPTION:  Perform in the Concert Band of the United States Army Field
 Band.   The Concert Band travels 100-120 days a year touring in the United
 States and abroad.  Performance requirements are 1) Standard and original
 concert band literature, 2) Standard and special classical transcriptions, 3)
 Pop, swing and jazz standards and special arrangements.  Opportunities for
 solo and small ensemble work are available.  This position requires a minimum
 3-year enlistment.  The candidate will be informed of acceptance prior to
 enlistment

 AUDITION PROCESS:  Submit an audio tape  containing solos or excerpts of
 various musical styles with emphasis on concert band and classical literature
 by December 6, 1996.  Applicants selected from screening of tapes will be
 invited to travel to Fort Meade, Maryland, for a personal interview and
 audition.  Travel expenses will be paid by the United States Army.  Military
 personnel must be eligible for permanent change of station and must submit a
 letter from their unit commander  recommending them for reassignment, if
 offered the position.
