Hi, I hope that this will get to the Tall Ships List. I have been having a
bit of trouble getting through.

I've been lurking on this list for a couple of weeks now to see what
kind of things are being discussed. As an introduction, I am an
ex-molecular biologist who lived aboard a 26 ft folkboat while I was a grad
student at the University of California at Santa Barbara. While that's
hardly a Tall Ship, I have always been interested in sailing and great
sailing ships. Recently I have been sailing a 40 ft Valiant in the
Narragansett Bay and beyond although I fear that that arrangement has come
to an end. (We will probably publish an account of our terminal voyage to
Maine on the Valiant in a little e-zine we are doing at
http://SoftAdventure.com . It'll probably be out by the end of the first
week in September.)

My only personal experience on a traditional sailing vessel came when I was
a cadet at Culver military academy back in the early 60's. The academy had
a square rigged vessel called the "Fowler" (I believe that was the
spelling) that was used to impress the parents on weekends. I was a
foretopman. I was wondering if anyone on this list had heard of this ship
and knew any of the specs on it or whether it is still afloat?

Some of you may also be interested in another one of our sites at
http://BurningElectrons.com/TallShips/ that describes the 1997 calendar and
coffee table book about to be published by Thad Koza on the current Tall
Ships Fleet.

TIA

SRLasky
