Burch Johnson included a parenthetical remark that I think refered to my post
about a scientific approach to the definative answer of whether or not the
material affects tone.
--------------

"(Now... did I really see someone put forth the idea that "We can't be using
our ears to judge sound" ? Excuse me? What's wrong with this picture?)"
---------------

Dan L. asserts that the material an instrument is made from has no effect on
tone quality. He further mentions that we can't really trust our ears because
we could be biased into thinking that one instrument or material is better
for tone production that another. I didn't think that the issue was which
sounds best or musical or most beautiful - just, is there a difference. If I
wanted to decide which instrument produces the best tone, well, that is
something else completely, and the answer is subjective.

Dan, is this an accurate summary of your position? If it isn't, then you
should make your position clearer as it seems there is at least one other
person on this list who can't pin it down.
