Lisa, I am delighted to hear that you perform on a Pyne mouthpiece and
appreciate your positive comments. However your posting incorrectly
implies that they are no longer available on a custom basis directly from
myself (James Pyne/Clarion, Inc.). The majority of my work is still done on
that basis both by phone/mail and in custom fitting sessions here at my
Columbus Ohio studio. I work with top professionals and serious students on
a weekly basis to "fine tune" the mouthpiece to that particular
individual's needs, playing style, reed type, physiology etc.

Additionally you suggest that there is a person in Detroit that can be
contacted for mouthpieces like mine. That is not possible in that I bore
and chamber my mouthpieces here in Columbus with reamers and other tools
designed and produced by myself. These techniques are extremely difficult
to copy with the needed accuracy. In that respect my mouthpieces are quite
different from those sold by re-workers who use "blanks" with the interior
dimensions already set. Mouthpiece facings can be duplicated with less
difficulty but cannot compensate for an inappropriate interior (bore &
chamber) design. The interior shape(s) and facing must work cooperatively
or an excellent result cannot be achieved.

Descriptive information on our mouthpieces (the various bore shapes and
facings, models used by prominent artists, etc.), Pyne/Clarion barrels,
handwoven ligatures, reed knife kits, is available on request.
