Sean,

Monolog 3 is one from a series of 18 monologues that von Koch wrote for all
different instruments. Each starts with a chant-like first part followed
by a virtuosic second part. The Monolog 3 for clarinet is one of his most
popular, and it is influenced by Swedish folk music.

One of the most popular living Swedish composers, Erland von Koch was born
in 1910, and is a prolific composer in all genres. Monolog 3 was written
in 1975.

Recently, I recorded the world premiere recording of the work on Ongaku
Records. The CD is called The Clarinet Alone, and it also features many
other 20th century solo works for clarinet.

Have fun with the piece. It is a wonderful work.
